2 Stars

After watching the deplorable Hooking Up (#320) last night, I needed a genre reset this evening.

Hardbodies is just the dumb, boner-comedy idiocy I was looking for.

My 2-star rating is probably inflated, I admit that, it’s just that Hardbodies feels so refreshing in comparison to Hooking Up

It’s a babes-in-bikinis flick about three middle-aged millionaires who move to SoCal and hire a young stud to help them pick up chicks. Nothing but simple nonsense.

I actually appreciate the film’s shallow ambitions, though. The females look like they’re having fun (unlike the actresses in Hooking Up), and the film celebrates their attractiveness and sexual agency as much as it capitalizes on their nudity. Simply, the film feels consensual.

It’s also shot on-location at various beaches in Southern California and filled with upbeat ‘80s rock, funky fashion, and big hairdos.

Is it good? No, not really, but I’ve seen worse.
