Despite its lineage, Friday the 13th Part 2 is just a ho hum slasher flick. The kills are decent, the plot is serviceable (which is about all you can ask of an ‘80s slasher), and our iconic killer, Jason Voorhees, is just starting to take shape (this is the first entry where he is doing the killing; he hasn’t donned is iconic goalie mask yet, though).

It was a treat, though, watching it at the Long Beach Art Theatre on 16mm on Friday the 13th, surrounded by horror nerds and weirdos. The print was a bit washed out and the focus was soft, which gave the whole thing some charm, even if it’s still just a cheap movie made for cheap thrills.
