3 Stars
Crazy, Stupid, Love has a talented comedic cast and a $50 million budget, both of which elevate this somewhat mediocre material to a pleasant romantic comedy. Written by Dan Fogelman, who went on to write The Guilt Trip (yikes) and Last Vegas (double yikes) and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who last worked as writers on Disney’s Jungle Cruise (triple yikes), Crazy, Stupid, Love is a big, well-meaning studio rom com.
Watching it, you get the sense that it was endlessly audience-tested to achieve maximum likeability.
But hey, the cast is great. Steve Carrell, Julianna Moore, Emma Stone, and Ryan Gosling are all fun. You could do a lot worse with your two hours.
